During my time at Vector Control, I learned so much about various disease reservoirs and the logistics of protecting the community from many diseases. My experience in the lab this summer was invaluable to my career and academic development. Along with practical applications of biology and public health, I was able to work on an independent project centering around equity in the services of the Vector Control District. I cross-referenced demographic information from the County Department of Public Health with the Service Requests our district has received. After this analysis, I proceeded to discuss solutions for increasing equity with my supervisor, our outreach team, and the County Language Access Unit, to expand access to Vector Control services for the community, especially those who are underserved.
