For my fellowship, I worked with the Business Development Division of Valley Health Plan. The main objective of my fellowship was to create an actionable community outreach program to improve awareness of Valley Health Plan’s offerings in the regions that we serve. This project has a specific focus on outreach to communities that experience barriers to obtaining healthcare insurance. As part of this project, I researched business unions and associations that serve smaller businesses and specific demographic groups that have higher rates of uninsured or underinsured workers with the goal of Valley Health Plan joining these groups to provide resources to members. Additionally, I searched for organizations in the area in order to identify organizations with which Valley Health Plan could pursue long-standing and meaningful partnerships. In pursuing these partnerships, I met with the heads of several nonprofit and community organizations in Santa Clara County to identify potential points of engagement. The final deliverable of my project is the community engagement plan that summarizes the research that I pursued in my time as a Fellow, as well as the opportunities for engagement that I identified with the business associations and potential community partners.
